Woman To Receive 70 Lashes For Insulting A Man On WhatsApp

A woman was arrested, charged and has been convicted of violating the Anti-Cyber Crime Law after she insulted a man on a popular mobile application, WhatsApp Messenger, prosecutors in Saudi Arabia said. Scoop have more:

Now, the Al Qatif Court has sentenced the woman to 70 lashes and a fine of 20,000 Saudi Riyals ($5,330), after being found guilty of insulting the man on WhatsApp Messenger. Prosecutors told the court that the 32-year-old woman tarnished the reputation of the man by posting defamatory messages on WhatsApp.
The victim pressed charges against the woman following an argument. The woman admitted that she had insulted the man, but she disagreed with the decision of the court.
The country’s Anti-Cyber Crime Law states that whoever defames or inflicts harm to others through various information technology devices will be subject to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year and a fine not exceeding 500,000 Saudi Riyals ($133,260).
