It is a challenge for deaf and blind people to enjoy
the sms feature on their mobile phones. That is fast becoming a thing of
the past, as technologists in Germany are in the process of releasing a
glove that will enable deaf and blind send text messages easily.
This
device is a better version of lorm- a "tactile alphabet" that enables
blind and deaf people to communicate with each other using hand motions
in Germany.Experts say that the shortcomings of lorm was that not many
people understood the language and as a result many of them were limited
and could not communicate effectively with each other.
This
new technology is an improved version of lorm. It is called the mobile
lorm glove. It enables deaf and blind people to transmit lorm to text on a
mobile device or computer. The device transmits text messages to a
receiver’s phone, after inbuilt sensors get the lorm when a user runs
his hand across the glove’s palm, and translates the tactile motions
into text.
Sources say it is as easy as running your fingers across your body or palm with your normal hand.
The
mobile lorm glove was tested by Edi Haug in an interview with BBC,
where he sent a text message saying “I can send and receive and it is
easy.” The mobile lorm glove allows users to communicate with more than
one person at a time.
