Facebook fraudsters use fake account of popular
Nigerians to con unsuspecting Nigerians. This time, the fake facebook
page of a sitting governor was used to defraud an unsuspecting
undergraduate.
That fateful day when the young
undergraduate saw a Facebook friend request from the supposed Governor
on his Facebook notification page, his heart was filled with joy. He was
ecstatic, so he clicked and accepted the request. That became his worst
night mare.
The Facebook fraudsters began to make
financial demands on him, in the pretext that he was he was being
helped to fast-track his employment in the said State Civil Service. He
initially parted with an undisclosed amount of money, only to realise
that the said account does not in any way belong to the Governor.
This
is one of many harrowing experiences unsuspecting, innocent and
hardworking Nigerians have had to go through in the hands of these
heartless Advanced Fee Fraud guys.
For
confidentiality purpose, the identities of the victims of these 419
schemes cannot be revealed. Another victim said he was receiving regular
messages on his timeline, with updates of various projects the fake
governor was embarking on in his state and also advised his Facebook
followers to take advantage of the many jobs he has created in the
state.
Unemployed youth who show interest, are
given an email and phone number to send their resume to. Those who send
their resumes are contacted and told that there are many job
opportunities, but that they have to part with various sums of money, so
that their applications can be fast-tracked due to the large number of
applicants in their database.
The victim said that
after sometime, he realised he was being conned after parting with an
unspecified amount of money. Pulse is currently making efforts to track
the Facebook page used for these nefarious acts. We will keep you
posted.
