Facebook is launching a new feature called 'Save For Later'. This gives users the option to save, or mark a newsfeed item for later reading. How does it work?
If you are a fan of quite a few pages on Facebook, trying to keep up to speed with all of the news, stories, updates, sales and everything else in between is tough. Then there are all your friends and family.
The newsfeed in Facebook is only so long and in our busy schedules there are times when we just do not have the chance to read everything we want to. But what if you could save your 'must read' stories to read it when you have a moment to yourself. This is just what this new feature will offer you.

What is the Facebook 'Save For Later' Feature?

Facebook has begin its launch of a brand new feature entitled 'Save For Later'.
This function will not only give all users the ability to save any or all of their favourite posts that appear in their newsfeed or on the wall of the friends, family or liked pages, to read at another point in time, but also the freedom to interact and read whenever and where ever best suits them.
Liken it to a bookmarking function.
In our busy schedules, keeping up with news is a juggle. This new option puts us back in control. All with a simple click of a button.

How Does The Facebook Bookmarking Feature Work?

Regardless of whether you are using a mobile device (including iPad) or a regular computer to view Facebook the action taken is the same:

• All you need to do is press and hold your finger on the drop down arrow that appears on the top right hand corner of a post, and a pop up option will appear.
• Simply select save, and the story will be added to the newly created 'Saved' category in your favorites. It is as simple as that.

There is no limit to the number of items you can save and no time limit on reading them. They will remain there until you have finished and then you can remove them at your convenience; and re-add more.

Is this private?

Will anyone know that I have saved their newsfeed item for later?
No. Rest assured that this is a private feature!
Any story or newsfeed item that you 'save for later' will never be made public to the person who initially made the update or posted the story. They will never be notified and all of your saved items are for your eyes only.

How to I activate the Facebook Save For Later Feature?

If the feature is not yet available for you, just sit tight as it will not be too long. You do not need to download an update for this to activate on your mobile and as with all other updates on Facebook you will see a notification message, typically at the top of your newsfeed, alerting you to the function being available.

The waiting game

Keep your eye out for a prompt to start using this new feature. As with most new updates on Facebook they are rolled out over time and some users will have it before you.
Some people may be asking why it took Facebook so long to introduce this handy functionality. I personally think it is a wonderful option to have. In our busy schedules we try to keep up with interesting stories, articles and updates but sometimes we miss them. Obviously this will not automatically capture stories whilst we are away from Facebook, but it is a great way to store them and enjoy them later.
I can see this feature being very popular particularly due to the number of interesting articles, news reports and helpful hints and tips that so many businesses on Facebook offer; for free.
This new option also means that you can access the articles through a variety of devices so you can keep up to date no matter where you are. Storing an article via your iPhone does not limit its readability. Next time you log onto your computer and open Facebook your saved items will be there and waiting.
Facebook are renowned for introducing updates and changes to us without much warning. The most recent change to our email addresses without notification is one that springs to mind. This is another one of those changes but arguably this is a positive one and one that you can choose to, or not to use.
