The Celta attacker would rather the Barcelona star
take a well-earned break rather than play with an injured ankle in
Sunday's clash at the Balaidos
The prolific Blaugrana attacker has been troubled by a foot injury in recent days and consequently missed Argentina's international friendlies against El Salvador and Ecuador.
The four-time Ballon d'Or winner completed a light training session on Thursday to boost hopes he will be match fit in time for Sunday's encounter, only to then reveal that his ankle remains swollen and sore.
Nolito is keeping a close eye on Messi's situation and believes it would be in Celta's advantage if the 27-year-old were to be forced to sit out the game at the Balaidos.
"I guess he'll come, but he can spend the day at the beach as far as I'm concerned," Nolito was quoted as saying by Marca .
"I'll give his dad a ring in a minute."
The former Barcelona forward then went on to stress that Celta do not fear the Catalans, who currently sit four points clear at the top of La Liga.
"The games have to be played," Nolito added. "You never know what's going to happen.
"Celta aren't scared of any opposition, regardless of whether they are the best team in the world. We've got nothing to lose."
