How to Copy and Repost on Facebook

If you see a post on Facebook that you want to share with your friends or followers, all you need to do is copy and repost it. Facebook makes this easy with the Share feature. You can repost videos, photos, links and text. Sharing is a quick way to spread ideas and promotions on Facebook. Instead of trying to reword a post, sharing allows you to repost the original and even add your own remarks at the beginning. By using the official Share feature, the original poster gets credit even though the post shows up on your wall.

Step 1Log-in to Facebook.

Step 2Find the post you want to copy and repost on your newsfeed, a friend's profile or business page.

Step 3Press “Share” under the post.

Step 4Use the drop-down box in the “Share This Status” dialog box to choose who you want to share the post with. You can repost to your own timeline, a friend's timeline, to a group, on a page you own or as a private message to another user.

Step 5Filter who sees the shared post by using the “Custom” drop-down box in the “Share This Status” dialog box. This allows you to choose to exclude certain people or lists from viewing the post, even if you share it on your timeline.

Step 6Compose a message of your own in the “Write something...” box. This isn't required, but offers the chance to add to the original message or explain why you're reposting.

Step 7Press “Share Status” to repost.

Tip

• While rare, some posts may not have a “Share” link. To copy these posts, highlight the text you wish to share and press “Ctrl-C” to copy the text. In the “Update Status” box, press “Ctrl-V” to paste the text. Press “Post” to share. Always give credit to the original poster.

• When reposting a post from an individual user, ensure you have permission to do so. If the post contains personal information, the user may not want the post shared with anyone outside their own circle of friends.
