The win clinched the Area 6 title for the host Rebels (21-11, 5-1).
Potter, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored, started the game on the mound for Vestavia Hills. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on four hits, with six walks and six strikeouts. Brett Jones came on to pitch the final 1 2/3 innings for the Rebels, picking up the victory. He allowed one unearned run on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts.
Mountain Brook tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Jack McPherson. That set the stage for Potter's heroics in the bottom of the inning.
J.D. Gann and Landon Crowder also swung powerful bats for the Rebels. Gann went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Crowder went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Sam Harvey, Trey Akins and Brett Jones also had two hits and drove in runs for Vestavia Hills.
Reliever Bailey Shelfer took the loss for Mountain Brook, giving up just one hit -- Potter's home run -- in 2/3 innings. Starter Burt Bellande got no decision after pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up three runs on seven hits.
