(CNN Philippines) — This year, the Philippines is observing Earth Hour with a glow-in-the-dark get-together on Saturday (March 28).
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) will be holding a glow-in-the-dark Zumba Fitness Party at the Quezon City Memorial Circle from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
WWF encouraged participants to come and join the event in their glow-in-the-dark Earth Hour shirts, or in their brightest neon attire.
The Earth Hour celebration in Quezon City will kick off with a musical parade at 5 p.m., but merchandise booths will open at 4:30 p.m.
The program will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be hosted by WWF-Philippines National Ambassadors Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez, and WWF-Philippines Climate Solutions Steward and Earth Hour Philippines Ambassador Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski.
First organized in 2007, Earth Hour encourages the simple action of switching off lights for 60 minutes to celebrate climate change solutions.
Thousands of hubs across the globe are expected to join the one-hour switch-off across various time zones.
The country has been tagged as one of the movement’s staunchest supporters and has been hailed a ‘Hero Country’ for topping participation levels from 2009 to 2013.
Over the years, Earth Hour has evolved into a modern and open-sourced environmental campaign mobilising millions of people in over 7000 cities and 162 countries.
Earth Hour 2015 emphasizes concrete actions on renewable energy and energy-efficiency. It also highlights climate-centric education and legislation.
