The late Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a visionary leader who led the nation from its Third World status to the thriving nation we are today, self-help group MENDAKI says. The National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre says his leadership made Singapore a "better home".

Philanthropy Centre and Young Sikh Association on Monday (Mar 23) paid
tribute to Singapore's first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who passed away in the morning.
National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre
“The Chair, Board and staff of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre are deeply saddened and mourn the loss of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, founding Prime Minister of Singapore who gave his life to build a successful Singapore.
“His presence and leadership made Singapore a better home for us, and he touched many lives through his commitment to creating a prosperous, peaceful and beautiful country. We remember what our founding father has stood for, his morals and values, his dedication towards the improvement of all our lives.
"As we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life and the home that he built for us. It is now in our hands to continue making Singapore not just a liveable city, but a loveable one too; a nation of good neighbours and people who care for one another to become a truly giving Singapore.
“Our deepest sympathy and condolences remain with the Prime Minister and his family.
“We remain indebted to you for all you have done and achieved for us.”

"Yayasan MENDAKI received with sadness the news of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s demise.
"As the first Prime Minister of Singapore, the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a visionary leader who led the nation from its Third World status to a thriving nation that we are today.
"It was also Mr Lee’s foresight on the need to help the Malay/Muslim community progress together with the rest of the nation, that Yayasan MENDAKI was formed. It was Mr Lee who saw the need for a voluntary body led by the Malay leaders and supported by the government to assist and work with the government to solve the problem.
"At the inaugural Congress of MENDAKI in May 1982, the then-PM Lee promised the community that the government will render its support to ensure the success of the first self-help group in Singapore.
"He believed in the concept of gotong-royong and urged the community’s leadership to win the mindshare of the Malay/Muslim parents through the establishment of self-help body, Yayasan MENDAKI.
"In 1984, PM Lee initiated the collection of funds through the monthly CPF check-off of Muslim workers to be channelled to the Mosque Building and MENDAKI Fund (MBMF) to ensure MENDAKI is able to have financial support needed to operationalise its educational efforts.
"Today, the Malay/Muslim community has not only forged ahead but has grown from strength to strength. Our progress is made possible due to Mr Lee’s vision and genuine concern for the community.
"As a tribute to his loving memory, Yayasan MENDAKI will continue to partner the community and nation’s leaders in ensuring the continuing progress of the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore.
"The founding father of modern Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, will always be remembered fondly by the community and the nation.
