Ibadan - Already seven states have been detected to
have bird flu and a professor from the University of
Ibadan, Adetunji Ogundipe, states farm workers are at a
huge risk of being infected with the flu, Punch
reported.
The disease is passed on through the the respiratory
system and there is fear workers don't know how to
follow safety requirements such as covering the nose
when exposed to such an environment.
Farm workers who do however get into contact with
sick birds stand at a high risk of being infected.
Government has been advised to control and
strengthen the veterinary quarantine service in order to
control the spreading disease.
The importation of birds from other countries needs to
be checked the professor stated to management and
control the issue.
